Thoughts While Shaving

Thoughts While ShavingI spent some time Saturday with between 50 and 60 (est), mostly senior citizens, celebrating a reunion of graduates of Clarkton High School, and enjoyed. Must confess, was not excited about going, usually feel like a seldom used spare tire, along for the ride just in case there is a nail that spoils the trip.

Yesterday was different. As I listened to graduates, mostly from the 40s, 50s and 60s, I thought of my friends from Bladenboro, class of ’56. As we grow older, the times together become more special.

The group was about evenly split between those who traveled a distance to attend, and locals. Obviously, many were disappointed more were not there, but those that wanted to attend and remembered, were there.

Graduates had an opportunity to share a few of their experiences along the way. Backgrounds were as varied as you would expect; retired servicemen who have also spend considerable time in other occupations, a retired American Airlines pilot, farmers (retired and still active), retired businessmen, government employees, school teachers, a retired minister who labored in the fields for over 60 years, the last 40+ with the same congregation in Louisiana. Many volunteers, a room full of good Bladen County folks.

Someone must be responsible, and yesterday, it was Wanda Burch, declaring this would be her last as the organizer. All who attended were grateful, and attempted to persuade her to do it again. A very good day for those there.

Changing the subject, with all the bad things going on, not just locally, but nationwide, thought about folks breaking into homes, many times in an effort to support a drug habit. Don’t know about you, but I would expect a bad ending if I were the offender.

It’s Sunday, and after time for worship, a new, exciting, busy week is just ahead.

He who is without sin, let him cast the first stone.

When life gets to hard to stand, kneel.

Cultivate Kindness.

None among us are perfect.
