The N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation and the Conservation Fund hosted a ribbon-cutting recently to mark the addition of land acreage to Bakers Lake State Natural Area in Bladen County … This summer, the Division acquired 1,156 acres from The Conservation Fund, a national land conservation and environmental nonprofit organization. The land was previously owned by Dr. Clem Johnson and his late wife, Nancye. They purchased the property in 1981 to create a private retreat for their family and the local community…
A lengthy news release stated, “We are grateful to Dr. Johnson for entrusting us with the future stewardship of the property. Our staff is well versed in managing these environments. The state natural area will be managed by nearby Jones Lake State Park. The Division plans to improve the road and add a parking area to provide public access.”
Local municipal elections set for Tuesday, November 7th. A few offices are being challenged … Many unopposed. Either OK with the way things are or just unconcerned. Check with the Bladen County Board of Elections for new rules and regulations related to voting … may be none.
Checking weather … huge change over past few hours … Yesterday’s high (Tuesday) was 65 degrees (2 a.m.), Monday’s high 85. From short sleeves to long johns in a few hours.
Sunny today with a high near 54 and windy, gusts as high as 24 mph. Tonight, clear, with a low around 31 … 31 degrees. Thursday, sunny, with a high near 58.
Temps rise to low to high 70s thru Tuesday of next week … local forecast for rain is a 30% chance Tuesday..
I am using the weather as an excuse for all the leaves in our front yard … and there are many. Need the wind to die down and for me to have a smart spell.
