Thoughts While ShavingFirst things first … Happy Birthday to Ms. Annie W. Sasser. Miss Annie is celebrating her 100th birthday today … Still very active, enjoys getting her hair fixed, going out to eat with friends and attending church on Sundays. Friends and family celebrated her birthday over the weekend … She is up and going strong every day … Happy Birthday To You … Hope you enjoy many more … You have set the bar high for all to follow…

On a down note, the war (unrest) continues in Israel and surrounding areas. Hopefully, some way, somehow, a peaceful settlement can be reached soon…

Back in the good old USA, members of the US House of Representatives will make another attempt to elect a new leader today … Can’t continue as is…

Top prospect this morning appears to be Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio. Current interim leader is NC Congressman Patrick Henry, a 20 year member. The problems began when less than 10 members ousted Rep. Kevin McCarthy, the previous leader, just before the war began in Israel and the surrounding area … A vote on Jordan is expected today. He needs over 200 members to vote yes…

I have been thinking about some products and terms that are seldom used (needed) today … some expressions we do not hear … examples … hog killins’ … crosscut saw … single-tree … a bag of coal (for heat) … pot belly heater, some occupations like seamstress … (someone that hems clothing, makes dresses and shirts … seldom see feed bags with designs for making shirts, skirts, etc. … snuff (Railroad Mills, Peach) … a plug of Black Maria chewing tobacco … hand pump to “pump up a tire’ … and the list goes on and on … So many more lost along the way … I guess there is no longer a demand…

Sunny today, with a high near 68 … Mostly clear tonight with a low around 45. Wednesday, sunny, with a high near 72.
Next best chance of rain is Friday … 40% chance. No measurable rainfall over the past 2 or 3 days.

The 5th annual Kevin Conner Memorial race held in Whiteville was strongly supported, again. Trooper Conner, a Bladenboro native, was killed in the line of duty several years ago.

“Isn’t it a bit unnerving that doctors call what they do “practice?”

“Have you ever noticed when you’re driving that anyone who’s driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone driving faster than you is a maniac?”

“I may have as much authority as the Pope, I just don’t have as many people who believe it.”
