Thoughts While ShavingLots of activities on today’s Event page….including Fun Day in Bladenboro…..

A small plane crashed Friday night off Old Lake Road near Riegelwood in Columbus County…One dead, identity has not been released.

West Bladen football team won their 3rd game of the young season last night…They have one loss. East Bladen (3-0) had an open date…

The hot topic in Bladen appears to be the expected announcement on Monday evening related to the merger of some schools….A 6 p.m. meeting is expected to be well attended…

The Board of Ed is in a tough situation….declining attendance and old school facilities, cuts in funding at the state level…parents are concerned, and rightfully so…30 years ago, there were nearly 8,000 students in the system….around 4,800 (est) today. Private schools, charter schools and home schooling are options now, as opposed to then.

The issue has been “kicked down the road” road for a long time…

Some talk about why at least one more school was not included. East Arcadia school attendance is shrinking and it is a long way from any other school…but many parents are asking, why not include that school as well?….

The Clarkton School of Discovery has long been one of the most popular/respected schools in the county….Will be interesting to see what the new plan calls for….Some speculate that it would be moved to Elizabethtown Middle School…Recommendations coming Monday at the monthly meeting of the Bladen County Board of Education.

Frankly, my guess is the board will likely receive the recommendations and schedule meetings around the county…Promises to be a hot topic for the next few months….

If you aim at nothing, you’ll hit it every time.

If you always do what you always did, you’ll always get what you always got.

If you are patient in one moment of anger, you will escape a hundred days of sorrow. (Chinese Proverb)
