elizabethtownpolicedepartmentlogoThree people have been charged with passing counterfeit bills in Elizabethtown in recent weeks, says Interim Police Chief Kip Hester, and police are still looking for one of the suspects.

Those charged are:

** Natasha Rogers of Martin Luther King Drive. She attempted to pass a counterfeit $20 bill at the Kangaroo convenience store, but was refused by the clerk, Hester said, then took the bill to Family Dollar and made a purchase Aug. 30. Rogers has been charged with two counts of possessing counterfeit currency, and single counts of obtaining property by false pretense and attempting to obtain property by false pretense. She remains at large. Anyone with information of her whereabouts is asked to call Det. J. Guyton at 862-3125.

** Clifton Martin of Moultrie Lane was arrested Sept. 2 for passing counterfeit bills twice at McDonald’s restaurant, Hester said. He was placed in Bladen County Jail under $2,500 bond.

** Vandido Hambrick of McLeod Street was arrested Sept. 18 after attempting to purchase alcohol at the Scotchman convenience store with a counterfeit $20 bill, Hester said. He was caught soon after leaving the store after being stopped while driving a moped. Hambrick was charged with uttering counterfeit currency and resisting a public officer. He was placed in Bladen County Jail under $5,000 bond.

Hester said more arrests are expected in the passing of counterfeit currency in Elizabethtown.
