A truck hauling meat byproducts exploded on Highway 41 just past Old NC 87 in Dublin on Thursday evening.

Colby Newman was an eyewitness to the explosion. He said, “I heard the first boom. At first, I thought it was my neighbor’s house. Then, another explosion happened.” Newman said he ran out and saw the tires explode on the truck.

According to Kenneth Clark, Bladen County Fire Marshall, no one was hurt in the incident.

Clark said, “We think the drive shaft broke because we have diesel fuel 400 yards down the highway. The state is in route with sand.”

Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control. Dublin Fire Chief Pete Batton said, “When we pulled up to the scene it (the truck) was totally engulfed. We soaked it down with foam and water.”

The truck was hauling meat byproducts. According to Chief Batton, officials on the scene are waiting on Hazmat and the truck’s owner, Valley Protein, for clean up.
