Autumn leaves are falling, but COVID-19 (coronavirus) numbers are rising in Bladen County. The virus is spreading faster than in prior months. According to health official reports, Bladen County has seen two more COVID-19 related deaths this week and a new nursing facility outbreak.

There are two congregate living facilities in Bladen County listed on the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) website for COVID-19 outbreaks. Bladen East Health and Rehab have been on the list for weeks, and their numbers continue to rise.

This week’s report shows the facility has 27 residents and 18 staff members who have tested positive for the virus, with four (4) residents deaths related to the illness.

Also, this week, Elizabethtown Health and Rehab was added to the congregate living outbreak list. The report has two staff members and one resident at the facility, testing positive for COVID-19. There are no related deaths at the facility.

According to the Bladen County Health and Human Services agency, since Monday, Bladen County COVID-19 related deaths went from 15 to 17. View today’s report above.

In addition to fever, cough and shortness of breath, the CDC added symptoms for the coronavirus: chills, headache, muscle pain, sore throat, and a new loss of taste.

Dr. Teresa (Terri) Duncan, Director of the local health department, confirmed Bladen County may receive a limited supply of COVID-19 vaccines for the at-risk population in November. High-risk population members are older adults and health care workers. A larger amount of the vaccines may be delivered in the spring of 2021.
