On Tuesday afternoon, Barbara Knight, with United Way of Bladen County, gave an update on the schedule of events for the Days of Caring. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the annual event.

Each year the local non-profit joins forces with area businesses, civic groups, schools, and faith-based organizations to help make a difference in the surrounding communities.

According to Barbara’s report on Monday, November 2, beautification projects at Bladen County nursing homes and the Division of Aging Project was lead by Cathy Gantz and Anne Beyer with the Elizabethtown Rotary Club.

Today, Tuesday, November 3, Tar Heel Baptist Church And Ready Meadow Hunting Club are building a ramp in Bladenboro for a local resident. Project leaders Tommy Puryear and David Foster are helping on the build along with other volunteers.

Another beautification project is being conducted at the Division of Aging with Director Kelly Robeson. Kim Edwards and her family are the leaders of the project.

On Thursday, Cape Fear Heating & Cooling team members will help build a ramp in Council for a community member with Daine Smith as the lead on the project.

Southeastern Carolina Crossroad and Paul R. Brown Leadership Academy students will be a ramp in Elizabethtown with Kinsy Barrow as the lead on that team project Thursday.

Also, on Thursday and for the rest of the week, cards and letters will be collected for nursing home residents, emergency responders, and veterans created by people at Anchor Academy, Bladen Early College High School, Clarkton School of Discovery, Plainview Primary School, Emereau: Bladen, Teen Challenge, Elizabethtown Middle School’s Junior Beta Club, Elizabethtown Occupational School, Elizabethtown Christian Academy along with their families and Dublin First Baptist Day School and Church.

Then, Barbara said, “All the following is on Friday, November 6, 2020:”

Foundation Church will have a ramp build team at two locations in Bladenboro with team leader: Bradley Wilt.

Bladen County Employees Team with Project Lead: Greg Martin will be repairing a porch in Clarkton.

In Elizabethtown, the Nicholas Wilkins Team will be working on a project.

There will be food packing for Back Packs at the extension office on Smith Circle in Elizabethtown.

Bladen Community College team and their leader, Michelle Norris
will be working in two shifts of 24 students packing and delivering food backpack to schools.

There is a list of ongoing projects this week, Barbara mentioned. Food collection is being held at Bladen County Department of Social Services.

The East Bladen and West Bladen Key Clubs and the Kiwanis Club of Elizabethtown started collecting donations for the local food pantries to show support for the Days of Caring.

Barbara was excited to announce the amount of donations received this far during the Days of Caring. The contributions for 2020 Days of Caring total $8700, and the campaign is not over.
