United Way of Bladen County and Lumber River United Way are collaborating for the 2021 Campaign to raise critical funds for the needs of Bladen County, according to Dr. Cathay Gantz, Board President for United Way in Bladen County. The goal of this campaign is to raise money to combat the most prominent issues faced in our community, including unemployment (7.2%), poverty (21%), and persons without health insurance (16%), and others.
Lumber River United Way serves Bladen, Hoke, and Robeson Counties. They have invested $354,272 in fifteen different nonprofits to provide community programs and initiatives. They invested over $24,000 in hurricane Florence Assistance, gave $35,109 to eighteen various nonprofits for COVID-19 Community Relief, invested nearly $75,000 in unique community programs and volunteer services, and gave a total of $257,355 to thirteen nonprofits for an Emergency Food and Shelter Program. LRUW says, “We fight for the health, education, and financial stability of every person, in every corner of Bladen, Hoke, and Robeson Counties.”
Why give to Lumber River United Way?
Dr. Gantz has an answer to this question. She stated, “The partnership with Lumber River United Way provides United Way of Bladen County the resources we need such as print materials, grant writing support, and solicitation letters. More importantly, the donations that are raised here stay here. The 2021 Campaign theme is ‘GIVE WHERE YOU LIVE,’ and when you give to Lumber River United Way, you can designate specifically where you would like the donation utilized.”
Investing in United Way’s campaign will help the organization provide utility assistance, food assistance, healthcare, and COVID-19 assistance, by providing necessary funds to local nonprofit organizations.
Dr. Gantz also shared that the overall goal is to deliver the highest value to the community by improving family and individual outcomes while creating pathways to access resources.
