A two vehicle crash on Gum Springs Road near White Oak sent one person to the hospital on Tuesday afternoon, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

According to North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Freeman, Michael Shaw was driving a pick-up truck owned by McDuffie Pest Control northbound on Gum Springs Road when he crossed the centerline and was struck by a livestock truck. The truck was loaded with hogs at the time of the incident, according to Trooper Freeman.

The livestock truck, owned by Chuck Ay’s Trucking, was being driven southbound on Gum Springs Road by Calvin Harris of Warsaw, said Trooper Freeman. The truck ran off the road and struck a tree after striking Shaw’s vehicle. Shaw’s vehicle ran off the roadway to the right.

Charges are pending in the incident, said Trooper Freeman. Shaw was airlifted from the scene to the hospital.
