ELIZABETHTOWN – With her parents, coaches, teammates and administrators in attendance, Zoe Smith signed Friday to continue her soccer career at Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington next season.

Smith was a key part of the East Bladen defense on the backline. “Zoe is one of the leaders for us in the back,” said East Bladen Coach Jay Raynor. “When her and Reece Hester (goalie) communicate and bring it, we are tough to score on. The leadership and experience that Zoe has in the back are why we are so stingy and don’t give up a lot of goals.”

With Smith anchoring the backline, the Lady Eagles posted 14 shutouts during the season as they compiled a 16-3-2 record. “This is arguably our best defensive group that has played in an East Bladen uniform,” stated Raynor.

Smith will be joining a Lady Sea Devils team that has reached the NJCAA National Tournament for the last 3 years, winning Region X and South Atlantic District Championships along the way.

The last 2 seasons Cape Fear has featured former East Bladen star Maya McDonald who scored 16 goals and dished out 4 assists last season and was named Region X Women’s Soccer Player of the Year.
