ELIZABETHTOWN – Jayden Bethea pitched a 2-hit shutout and struck out 7 batters to lead the Yard Goats to a 10-0 Dixie Boys Baseball victory over the Rays Thursday night at County Park.
The Yard Goats jumped ahead early with 5 runs in the 1st inning. Gaston Russ slammed a double to left-center field, and Styrker Pait walked. Aidan Thompson raked a single to left that scored Russ, and Brady Marlowe drilled a double to left that scored Pait. Landon Gause smashed a double to center field that plated Thompson and Marlowe. Ryne Priest knocked in Gause with a single to left.
Ritchie Gonzalez-Velasco was hit by a pitch, and Bethea walked to start the Yard Goat 2nd inning. Colt Lewis walloped a triple to left that scored Gonzalez-Velasco and Bethea and padded the lead to 7-0.
The Yard Goats tacked on a run in the 3rd. Russ smoked a single to right field and dashed home on Pait’s squeeze bunt to up the count to 8-0.
Landon Gause and Priest cracked singles to begin the 4th inning. Bethea spanked a single to right that scored Priest for a 9-0 lead.
Rylan Bordeaux smacked a 2-out single to right in the 5th inning. Drake Gause reached base on an error, Russ was hit by a pitch, and Pait walked. Bordeaux scored to boost the final margin to 10-0.
Russ batted 2-for-2 with a double and 2 runs scored. Landon Gause finished 2-for-2 at the plate with a double, a run scored and 2 RBIs. Priest also batted 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI. Colt Lewis hammered the 2-run triple.
Marlowe and Gunner Lewis ripped doubles with Marlowe picking up an RBI and a run scored. Thompson, Bethea and Bordeaux added a single each. Bordeaux, Bethea, Pait and Thompson scored 1 run each. Pait, Thompson and Bethea had 1 RBI each.
Noah German started and pitched 4.2 innings for the Rays and struck out 8 batters. Greylon Robinson worked 0.1 innings of relief. German and Jax Hansen belted 1 hit each for the Rays.
