About 40 years ago a few golfers came up with an idea that has flourished as Thundering Herd.
What is now Vineyard Golf At White Lake was once White Lake Golf Course and for a period of time, Carolina Sands at White Lake. During the change of ownerships and names one thing stayed the same … The Thundering Herd.
“The Herd,” as it is known, is a nine hole tournament held every Thursday at 6 p.m. Men, women, teenagers … all are invited to play. Initially it consisted of men only. Now, if you can swing a club “come on over and sign up.”
This past Thursday was a prime example of how the teams can mix. The winning team consisted of two ladies, two teenagers and a senior citizen … what a mixture that was … and
it worked out well as they shot eight under par.
So help keep the tradition alive … next Thursday at 6 p.m. a large group will tee off … THE THUNDERING HERD.
