The 18th annual Made in the Shade Open Car and Truck Show was held Saturday under warm, Carolina Blue skies on the lawn in front of San Jose Restaurant in Elizabethtown. During the show, the members of the Classic Cruisers Car Club presented Bladen County Sheriff Jim McVicker with a plaque recognizing the Sheriff’s Office for their service and dedication to serving and protecting the citizens of Bladen County.
“He had no idea we were going to give him the plaque,” said Dove.
He said that three members of the club got together and decided they wanted to do something for the community.
“Danny Lesane suggested we give it to the police department or sheriff’s office. We decided to give it to the sheriff’s office,” said Dove.
Also present were retired NC Highway Patrol members David King and Webb Brown.
The group awarded more than 100 trophies on Saturday afternoon.
Entries varied from Special Interest cars to a 1931 Ford. Linda Barnhill of Wilmington had an interesting entry with a 1933 Chevy Three Window Coupe.
“This car has never been out here. We just got it back on the road in early July,” said Barnhill.
She noted that she and her husband have been working to restore the car on and off for about 17 years. She said the car was just a shell when they brought it home all those years ago.
Organizers were pleased with the turn out for the day. Roger Teachey a member of Classic Cruisers Car Club said, “Last year we had 238 entries. We’re happy with 175.”
He noted that the number of spectators was good as well.
Folks strolled up and down the rows of cars and were able to relive memories of yesteryear as well as check out some the horse power that once ruled the roadways.

Also, Walter McDuffie, owner of McDuffie Pest Control, brought his truck out to the show.
Andy Atkinson of Fayetteville brought his 1954 MG London Roadster out to the show.
