A second man wanted in connection with the robbery of a storage shed at a house on U.S. 701 South was arrested Friday near Tar Heel, says Bladen County Sheriff James McVicker.

Mathue Hannaniah Johnson, 23, was taken into custody at a home near Tar Heel, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Johnson is charged with misdeamor larceny, breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, possession of stolen goods and resisting a public officer. His bond was set at $110,000.

Authorities had been looking for Johnson since the arrest of Joshua Brian Evans, 37, of Clarkton, about 10 days ago on charges of felonious breaking and entering, felonious larceny, and felonious possession of stolen goods. His bond was set at $25,000.

The two are charged with breaking into a storage building behind a home in the 4000 block of U.S. 701 in Elizabethtown on Sept. 27. McVicker said the men took power tools, an air compressor, battery charger, leaf blower, floor jack, weed eater and gas cans.

The initial deputy on the scene checked the immediate area and located footprints leading away from the building and going down a road behind the property. After following these footprints, he located all of the stolen property hidden in the woods.”

McVicker said, while investigating, the deputy saw a car drive down the road, which was a dead end road, turn around and start back out. He stopped the car and after questioning the occupants was able to link them to the theft of the items.
