EAST ARCADIA – Thomas Academy of Lake Waccamaw outlasted Paul Brown Leadership Academy’s Bulldogs 53-50 in overtime Tuesday night in boys basketball action.

Cold-shooting plagued both teams in the first half. Thomas Academy edged ahead 9-8 in the first quarter, and Zarian Brown tossed in 6 points in the second quarter to keep the Bulldogs within 16-14 at halftime.

The Bulldogs outscored Thomas 12-10 in the third quarter to tie the game 26-26. Marvin Lacewell fired in 6 of his team-high 17 points in the fourth quarter as the Bulldogs ended regulation play tied 42-42.

Thomas outscored Paul Brown 11-8 in the overtime period to get the win. Zarian Brown finished with 13 points for Paul Brown, and teammate T. J. Smith scored 11 points.

The Paul Brown Bulldogs are now 5-2 in league play and 5-4 overall. The Bulldogs will travel Thursday to Oak Ridge Military Academy that is north of Greensboro for a non-conference game at 5 p.m.
