CHARLOTTE – Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) had this reaction to President Donald Trump’s announcement of tariffs on foreign imports of steel and aluminum:
“We are already in a trade war and we are losing, with a $566 billion global trade deficit, over $375 billion to China alone. President Trump is smart enough to do something about it. He is likely the best negotiator we have ever had in the White House. The President knows how to negotiate from a position of strength. Yes, we need free trade, but hardworking Americans also deserve fair trade. That’s the goal.”
Congressman Pittenger serves on the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Monetary Policy and Trade, and is a Member of the Congressional Steel Caucus.
