BLADENBORO – Jordan Bryan crushed a 3-run triple to deep left-centerfield in the top of the eighth inning that lifted Tar Heel to a 10-9 Bladen Five Middle School Conference baseball victory over Bladenboro Wednesday.

With the score tied 7-7, pitcher Alex Brisson lined a single to leftfield to begin the Panther eighth inning, and Destin Montgomery raked a single to left.

Catcher Antonio Candelaria was walked intentionally before Brisson walloped his bases-clearing blast to put Tar Heel up 10-7.

The Bulldogs rallied in the bottom of the inning as Alex Strange reached base on an error and Aaron Wren walked. Strange raced home on an error, and Bryley Williams ripped a double to left-centerfield that scored Wren and trimmed the lead to 10-9. Panther rightfielder Lance Soumanhoro snagged a fly ball to end the game.

Brisson pitched the final 4 innings to pick up the win for Tar Heel. He allowed 5 runs on 5 hits while walking 2 and striking out three. Montgomery worked the first 4 innings and gave up 4 runs on 6 hits and a walk while striking out six.

Devon Strange started and worked 3.2 innings on the mound for the Bulldogs. He allowed 5 runs on 7 walks (2 intentional), 2 hits and a hit batter while striking out seven. Alex Strange relieved and pitched 4.1 innings giving up 5 runs on 7 hits and 3 walks, (2 intentional) while striking out six.

The Bulldogs grabbed a 2-0 first inning lead. Williams walked and raced home when Michael Young hammered a double to left-centerfield. Young later scored on an error.

Tucker Carroll beat out an infield hit to start the Panther second. Jordan Underwood and Zackery Williams drew walks, and Riley Stanley was hit by a pitch to force home Carroll. An error on Montgomery’s fly ball to right scored Underwood, Williams and Stanley to put Tar Heel on top 4-2.

The Bulldogs went up 5-4 in the home second. Elijah Crabtree laced a single to centerfield, and Alex Strange yanked a single to left. Crabtree stole home on the back end of a double steal with Alex Strange who later scored when Wren smacked a single to left.

Williams smashed a double to rightfield, and Devon Strange cracked a single that scored Williams.

Carroll walked to begin the Tar Heel third, advanced on a pair of passed balls and scored on Todd Richardson’s fielder’s choice to tie the game 5-5.

Williams reached base on an error to begin the Bulldog fifth and scored when Young swatted a single to left-centerfield that edged Bladenboro ahead 6-5.

Brisson drilled a single to left to start the Panther sixth inning. Candelaria was intentionally walked, and both runners advanced on a throwing error. Carroll bounced a single through the left side that scored both runners and vaulted Tar Heel ahead 7-6.

Blackmon belted a 2-out single in the sixth inning, and Young knocked hime in with a single to left-centerfield that tied the game 7-7.

Carroll finished 2-4 at the plate with 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored for the Panthers. Montgomery batted 2-4 with a run scored. Brisson was 2-5 with 2 runs scored. Bryan smashed the 3-run triple.

Candelaria doubled, was walked intentionally 4 times and scored twice. Underwood scored twice. Stanley had an rbi and a run scored. Richardson had an rbi.

Young batted 3-4 with 2 doubles, 3 rbi’s and a run scored to lead the Bulldogs. Alex Strange finished 2-3 at the plate with a double and 2 runs scored. Williams batted 3-5 with 2 doubles, 3 runs scored and an rbi.

Devon Strange, Blackmon, Crabtree and Wren added one hit each. Blackmon and Crabtree scored runs, and Wren had an rbi.

It was the first loss of the season for Bladenboro. Both Bladenboro and Tar Heel own 2-1 records.
