WHITEVILLE – A 9-run fourth inning broke open a 6-3 game and propelled Whiteville Central to a 15-3 Waccamaw Middle School Conference victory over Tar Heel Monday.

The Panthers grabbed an early lead with a second inning run. Ahmir Stepps walked, stole second and sprinted home when Parnell Hooper hammered a triple to the right-centerfield fence.

The Hornets rallied with 6 runs in the second inning on 4 walks and 3 hits. Three runs, 3 errors and 4 walks led to the 9-run fourth inning.

Jordan Underwood led off the Panther third inning with a single and eventually scored on Destin Montgomery’s fielder’s choice. Stepps belted a single to start the Tar Heel fourth inning and scored on Nolan Sessoms’ fielder’s choice.

Montgomery started on the mound for the Panthers and pitched into the fourth inning. Catcher Jordan Bryan singled and walked twice. Hooper slammed the rbi triple, and Stepps singled and scored twice. I’keir Murchison and Underwood connected for one hit each.

The Panthers will host Elizabethtown Thursday.
