WHITEVILLE – A 4-run second-inning rally propelled Whiteville to a 6-4 Three Rivers Conference softball victory over East Bladen Friday night.

East Bladen took an early 1-0 lead. Sophmore Alyssa Futrell hammered a double to left, and sophmore Jordan Kinlaw yanked a single to left. Junior Lorna Mendell slapped a single to right that scored Futrell.

Whiteville pulled even in the bottom of the first. Carmen Hilbourn singled and circled the bases on 2 errors and a wild pitch.

Senior Olivia Hollingsworth slammed a double to centerfield and scored on an error to edge the Lady Eagles ahead 2-1 in the top of the second.

Whiteville bunched four singles in the second inning to take a 5-2 lead. Hilbourn blooped a 2-run single to right, and freshman Tessa Nicholson and junior Elizabeth Wyatt cracked run-scoring singles.

Hollingsworth led off the fourth inning with a single but was retired on Johanna Parker’s fielder’s choice. Sophmore Kayleigh Raynor knocked in Parker with a double to left. Raynor stole third base and scored when freshman Mariah Smith raked a single to left that trimmed the lead to 5-4.

A bunt single, a stolen base and another Hilbourn single produced the final Whiteville run in the fourth.

Junior Jenna Bullard relieved Kadance Hammonds in the circle for the Lady Wolfpack and retired 9 of the last 11 batters with 6 strikeouts. Hilbourn finished 3-3 at the plate with 3 runs batted in and 2 runs scored.

Hollingsworth batted 2-3 with a double and a run scored for East Bladen. Kinlaw also batted 2-3, and Raynor finished 2-4 at the plate with a double, an rbi and a run scored. Futrell slugged a double and scored a run. Smith and Mendell added one hit each. Smith and Mendell had an rbi each, and Parker scored a run.

Raynor struck out four in the circle for East Bladen and allowed 6 runs – 4 earned – on 7 hits and 2 walks.

East Bladen will host South Columbus Tuesday night.
