BLADENBORO – Freshman Peyton Duncan pitched a 5-hitter and struck out 12 batters to lead South Columbus to an 11-4 Three Rivers Conference softball victory over West Bladen Tuesday night.

Libby Blosser’s double and Anna Suggs’ single helped the Lady Stallions to a 2-0 first inning lead.

West Bladen answered in the home first as junior Kyla Reed walked, stole second and third bases and darted home on pitcher Shelby Pharr’s bunt single to trim the margin to 2-1.

Duncan’s 2-run single, a Hailey Chestnutt single and three Lady Knight errors produced a 6-run South Columbus third inning. Hits by Chestnutt, Caila Turbeville and Lacey Sykes enabled the visitors to tack on 2 more runs in the fourth inning.

The Lady Knights trimmed the margin to 10-3 in the fifth inning. Junior Kasee Singletary beat out a bunt single but was retired on junior Alara Cashwell’s fielder’s choice. Reed walloped a triple to right-centerfield that scored Cashwell. Freshman Hannah Pait knocked in Reed with a single to right-centerfield.

Duncan drove in a South Columbus run in the sixth inning, and Cashwell blasted a home run to centerfield in the seventh inning for the final West Bladen run.

Cashwell slugged the home run and scored twice to lead the Lady Knight hitters. Reed belted the run-scoring triple and scored twice. Hannah Pait cracked the run-scoring single, and Pharr and Singletary added one hit each.

Duncan and Chestnutt both batted 2-4 and scored twice to lead South Columbus. Duncan drove in 3 runs. Blosser doubled and scored a run.

West Bladen, now 8-8 in TRC play and 10-8 overall, will host a season-ending double-header Saturday. The Lady Knights will host Whiteville at 12 noon and East Bladen at 4 p.m.
