WHITEVILLE – Laila Smith poured in 29 points Monday to lead Elizabethtown to a 56-27 Waccamaw Middle School Conference girls basketball victory over Williams Township.
Iveonna Ward fired in a trio of baskets, Laila Smith threw in 2 baskets, and Zoe Smith drained a 3-point shot as the Lady Cougars raced to an early 13-3 lead.
Laila Smith tossed in 2 baskets and a free throw in the second quarter. Ward and Ariel Cromartie pumped in baskets, and Zoe Smith canned a free throw as the Elizabethtown lead grew to 23-7 at halftime.
Ward sank 4 free throws and a basket in the third quarter. Laila Smith drilled in a trio of baskets, and Zoe Smith tacked on a free throw to keep the Lady Cougar lead at 36-18.
Laila Smith lit up the scoreboard with four 2-point baskets, 3 free throws and a 3-point bomb in the final period. Ward, Zoe Smith and Takyla Cowan added a basket each.
Ward racked up 16 points for the winners, and Zoe Smith totaled 7 points. Adara Todd with 10 points and Jada McDowell with 9 topped the Lady Aggie scoring.
Coach Cedric Owens’ Lady Cougars improved to 3-1 in Waccamaw Division AA play and are 5-1 overall. Elizabethtown will host West Columbus Thursday.
