FAIRMONT – Junior Cedrique Smith and senior Kobe Davis keyed a 22-10 third quarter spurt that propelled Fairmont to a 54-42 Three Rivers Conference boys basketball victory over East Bladen Friday night.
Smith drained a pair of 3-point shots in the quarter and led the Tornadoes with 17 points. Davis worked inside for a pair of baskets and finished with 11 points. Senior Tyrese Bradley totaled 8 points in the game.
Junior center Javant McDowell topped the Eagle scoring list with 12 points, and junior Jacob Priest followed with 10 points. Junior RaSean McKoy totaled 7 points, and senior Corey McKoy finished with 6 points.
RaSean McKoy powered in a basket, junior Donevin Keith canned 2 free throws, and McDowell made one to keep the Eagles within 9-5 at the first quarter break.
Seniors Tayshaun Berkeley and Juwan Baldwin and McDowell pumped in a basket each in the second quarter. Corey McKoy cashed in 2 free throws as the Eagles trimmed the Fairmont lead to 15-13 at halftime.
Priest sank 3 free throws and a basket in the third quarter. McDowell and RaSean McKoy powered in baskets, and Baldwin hit a free throw, but Fairmont had opened up a 37-23 lead.
McDowell converted 5 straight free throws in the final period and added a basket. Priest buried a 3-point shot and 2 free throws, Corey McKoy delivered 4 straight free throws, and RaSean McKoy connected on a basket and a free throw.
East Bladen, now 3-14, will host St. Pauls Tuesday night.
