GUNTERSVILLE, AL – Bladen County’s Zach Meares, Freddy Wooten and Brady Hollingsworth sparked Hope Mills to a 13-3 victory over Sevier County, Arkansas Saturday in the opening round of the Dixie Pre-Majors World Series.

Wooten pitched 3 innings to pick up the win, allowing 3 runs on a hit, 2 walks and 4 hit batsman while striking out one. At the plate Wooten batted 2-4 with a double, 3 runs batted in and 2 runs scored.

Meares pitched 2 innings of 1-hit scoreless relief striking out 3 and walking one. At the plate he walloped a solo home run and batted 2-2 with 2 rbi’s.

Hollingsworth handled the catching duties and finished 2-4 at the plate with a double, 3 runs batted in and 2 runs scored.

With Arkansas leading 2-0, Meares slugged a home run over the 330-foot fence to put Hope Mills on the board.

Hollingsworth ignited a 5-run Hope Mills third inning with a 2-run single. Wooten knocked in Hollingsworth with a single as the winners jumped ahead 7-3.

In Hope Mills 4-run fourth inning, Hollingsworth drilled a run-scoring double, and Wooten knocked him in with a 2-run double. Meares cracked a single that scored Wooten and pushed the lead to 11-3.

Hope Mills advanced to a Saturday night winners bracket game against Portland, Tennessee.
