RED SPRINGS – Sophomore Rylee Chadwick pitched a one-hitter and struck out 8 as West Bladen rolled to a 14-1 non-conference softball victory over Red Springs Monday night.

Chadwick allowed a run-scoring single to Jazlyn Jones with 2 out in the 5th inning that scored Tristen Locklear who had reached on an error thus making the run unearned.

Freshman Lena Trinidad batted a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, a run batted in and a run scored for the Lady Knights. Senior Abigail Madden turned in a 3-for-4 game at the plate with 4 runs scored. Chadwick knocked in 5 runs, slammed 2 doubles, scored twice and batted 3-for-5.

Senior Alyssa Suggs batted 2-for-3 and drove in 3 runs for the winners. Sophomore Mackenzie Singletary hammered a 2-run double. Sophomore Madison Taylor and junior Jessalyn Vendrick cracked RBI singles. Vendrick drove in 2 runs and scored three.

Sophomore Kylie Durden belted a single, junior Hannah Pait scored twice, and junior Taylor Lewis and sophomore Hailey Guyton scored one run each.

Trinidad led off the game with a double to right-centerfield, and Madden legged out an infield hit. Chadwick ripped a double to left-centerfield that plated both runners. Vendrick smacked a single to center that scored Chadwick, Pait reached on an error, and Suggs knocked in Vendrick and Pait with a single for a 5-0 Lady Knight lead.

Madden was hit by a pitch to begin the 2nd inning, and raced home when Chadwick walloped a double to left-centerfield. Taylor reached on an error but was retired on Vendrick’s fielder’s choice that brought home Chadwick. Suggs spanked a single to right that scored Vendrick and padded the lead to 8-0.

Madden laced an opposite-field single in the 3rd inning, and Taylor drove her in with a single for a 9-0 lead before Red Spring scored in the fifth.

Vendrick and Pait reached base on errors to start the West Bladen 6th inning and both dashed home when Singletary pounded her double to right-centerfield. Trinidad’s infield hit plated courtesy runner Guyton. Madden beat out an infield hit, and Chadwick smoked a single to center that scored Trinidad and Madden.

Coach Pam Stephens’ Lady Knights improved to 3-1 on the season and will visit East Bladen Monday at 6 p.m.
