ELIZABETHTOWN – East Columbus defeated East Bladen 8-4 Thursday night in non-conference softball action.

The Lady Gators bunched singles by Alexis Jacobs, Bailey Padgett and Ava Jacobs to take a 3-0 lead in the 1st inning.

The Lady Eagles battled back in the 3rd inning. Sophomore Maegan Burney cracked a 1-out single, and senior Kayleigh Raynor smacked a single. Sophomore Laura Davisson walloped a 3-run homer that scored Burney and Raynor and knotted the score 3-3.

Ava Jacobs started the East Columbus 4th inning with a double. Junior Autumn Webb drove her in with a single. Later in the inning an error allowed 2 more runners to score and put the Lady Gators up 6-3. The Lady Gators added single runs in the 5th and 6th innings to pad their lead to 8-3.

Sophomore AnnaGrey Heustess belted a 1-out single in the East Bladen 7th inning. Pinch-runner Dyiamon Robinson raced home on Burney’s single to trim the final margin to 8-4.

Burney batted 2-for-3 with a run scored and a run batted in. Raynor finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored. Davisson slugged the 3-run home run, and sophomore Emma Turbeville and Heustess collected one hit each. Robinson scored a run.

Ava Jacobs batted 3-for-4 to lead East Columbus. Webb finished 2-for-3 with a double, and Padgett batted 2-for-4.

Davisson went the distance in the circle for the Lady Eagles and allowed 8 runs – 4 earned – while striking out two. Hannah Andrews pitched the first 3 innings for the visitors and Ava Jacobs picked up the win in relief.

The Lady Eagles will host West Bladen Monday at 6 p.m.
