ELIZABETHTOWN – Senior Robert McKoy and sophomore Masion Brooks scored touchdowns, and East Bladen’s defense forced 5 turnovers as the Eagles held off West Bladen 16-8 in Tuesday night’s Southeastern Athletic Conference football game.

Led by senior Damarius Robinson the Knights held a 189-163 advantage in total yards. However the Knights lost 2 fumbles and suffered 3 pass interceptions. East Bladen lost 1 fumble.

McKoy capped the 1st Eagle scoring march with a 1-yard touchdown run with 3:05 remaining in the opening period. Senior quarterback Javius Brooks tossed a pass for the 2-point conversion to his brother, Masion Brooks, to pad the East lead to 8-0.

Neither team could crack the scoring column in the 2nd quarter until a high snap to the Knight punter, Hezekiah Adams, was kicked out of the end zone for a safety that upped the East halftime lead to 10-0 only 49 seconds before halftime.

The Eagles tacked on another touchdown after halftime as Brooks bulled into the end zone from a yard out. The conversion run failed, but the East lead grew to 16-0 with 9:20 left in the 3rd quarter.

The defense scored the first points for the Knights as sophomore Jahmar Richardson, Robinson and junior Tyler Ward teamed up to tackle an Eagle runner in the end zone for a safety that trimmed the lead to 16-2 with 9:56 on the game clock.

The Knights mounted a couple of scoring threats in the final period, before Robinson powered into the end zone from a yard out with 27 seconds remaining to slice the final margin to 16-8.

Robinson gained 96 yards on 20 carries to lead the Knight runners. Junior Javarrie Adams rushed 7 times for 50 yards. Freshman Hezekiah Adams completed 6 of 21 passes for 47 yards. Junior Tydrick Stewart caught 2 passes for 33 yards.

Senior Tim McLean led the Eagle runners with 80 yards on 10 carries. Senior Corey Ballard rushed 10 times for 46 yards, and Masion Brooks added 23 yards on 12 attempts.  Javius Brooks completed 1 pass to senior Nazire Smith for 6 yards.

Junior Gary Parker topped the Knight defense with 14 tackles and 2 fumble recoveries. Richardson racked up 10 tackles and forced a fumble. Junior Deonte Lacey was credited with 8 tackles, and junior Ahmir Stepps and sophomore Aaron Lewis finished with 6 tackles each. Stewart totaled 5 tackles, and senior Keshawn Ballard had 4 tackles.

It was the conference opener for Coach Robby Priest’s Eagles who are now 1-0 in the SAC-7 and 2-3 overall. East Bladen will visit Fairmont Friday night for a 7:30 game.

The Knights are now 1-1 in league play and 2-2 overall. West Bladen will host St. Pauls on October 8th.
