ELIZABETHTOWN – East Bladen snapped a 1-1 tie with a 25-16 victory in the 3rd set then posted a marathon 29-27 victory in Set 4 to claim a 3-1 Southeastern Athletic Conference volleyball victory over West Bladen 3-1 Tuesday night.

The Lady Eagles had outlasted the Lady Knights 25-23 in the opening set, but West rallied to take the 2nd set 25-17.

Junior Makayla Wright banged in 9 kills, 5 blocks, 1 ace and had 3 digs to lead the Lady Knights. Sophomore Trinity Meares slammed in 7 kills, 5 blocks, 1 ace and had a dig. Junior Whitney McLean walloped in 6 kills.

Junior Emily Young keyed the Lady Knight attack with 9 assists and added 2 digs and 2 aces. Sophomore Maddie Walters knocked in 3 kills, a block and had 1 dig. Senior Caroline Brisson sparked the West defense with 5 digs. Junior Catherine Dowless totaled 1 assist and 1 dig. Sophomore Jenna McLean contributed 1 ace and 1 assist.

Coach Jordan Raynor’s Lady Eagles improved to 3-4 in league play and 5-9 overall and will host East Columbus Monday. West Bladen, now 2-5 in the SAC-7 and 3-9 overall, will host Fairmont Thursday at 4:30.

West Bladen won the jayvee game 2-1. Coach Kaitlyn Sykes’ Lady Knights improved to 4-3 in league play and 7-5 overall.
