FAIRMONT – Stevie Smith pitched 5.2 innings and struck out 11 batters to lead Fairmont to an 8-2 Southeastern Athletic Conference baseball victory over West Bladen Friday night.

Smith allowed 2 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks. Teammates Kenley Callahan and Noah Parker finished up with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.

Parker doubled home a run, then stole home in a 2-run Tornado 1st inning. Malachi Gales slammed a 2-run double in the 2nd inning to boost the Fairmont lead to 4-0.

Knight sophomore Jahmar Richardson crushed a solo home run over the right field fence in the 3rd inning.

Fairmont’s Stanley Scott poled a sacrifice fly in the 3rd inning, and Nate Jones smashed a 2-run double as the lead grew to 7-1.

West Bladen junior Hunter Elks drilled a double to left field in the 6th inning, and courtesy runner Aaron Wren stole 3rd base then dashed home on Richardson’s sacrifice fly.

An error and NyNy Cromartie’s single produced the final Fairmont run in the home sixth.

Richardson slugged a home run and drove in both runs to lead the Knight hitters. Elks ripped the double, and juniors Bryce Fuller, Kaden Revels and Hunter Smith and senior Josh Russ connected for 1 hit each.

Parker batted 2-for-3 with a double to lead Fairmont. Gales and Jones swatted 2-run doubles.

Russ started and pitched 2.1 innings for the Knights and allowed 7 runs on 5 walks and 3 hits while striking out three. Senior Bryley Williams pitched 3.1 scoreless innings of 2-hit relief while striking out 4, and senior Alex Strange gave up a run on a hit and 2 walks in his 0.1 innings on the mound.

The Knights, now 4-6, will travel to Red Springs Tuesday night.
