BLADENBORO –Weston Hilburn and Gavin Elks teamed up to pitch a 2-hitter, and Bladenboro exploded for 12 runs in their final 2 at-bats to rally for a 14-4 Waccamaw Middle School Conference baseball victory over Nakina Wednesday.

Nakina scored 4 runs on 2 hits, 2 walks and an error in the 3rd inning to take a 4-2 lead. Jonah Bryan led off the Bulldog 3rd inning with a single and scored when Elks hammered a triple to left-center field. Hunter Hester smashed a double to left that brought home Elks with the tying run.

Hilburn reached base on an error that scored Hester with the go-ahead run. Ashton Davis knocked in Hilburn with a single to center field. Luke Bryant was hit by a pitch, and Corben Chadwick and Jonah Bryan drew walks to force home Davis and push the lead to 7-4.

Hester and Hilburn drew walks to start the Bladenboro 4th inning. Davis delivered a single, and Chase Bryan was hit by a pitch as Hester scored. Cole Brisson reached base on an error that scored Hilburn.

Jonah Bryan yanked a 2-run single to left that scored Davis and Chase Bryan. Elks spanked a single to right that scored Brisson. Hester crushed a triple to center field that drove in Elks and ended the game on the mercy rule.

Hester batted 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, 3 runs batted in and 3 runs scored. Elks finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Davis batted 2-for-3 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Jonah Bryan finished 2-for-3 at the plate with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Hilburn singled home a run and scored twice. Chase Bryan scored 2 runs, and Brisson scored a run. Chadwick had an RBI.

Hilburn started and pitched 2.1 hitless innings, allowing 3 runs – 2 earned – on 3 walks while striking out six. Elks worked 1.2 innings of relief and gave up an unearned run on 2 hits while striking out three.

Coach Tim Benton’s Bulldogs have already clinched the Waccamaw’s ‘A’ League championship with a 7-0 record and are scheduled to travel to Elizabethtown Tuesday.
