DUNN – Midway scored a pair of unearned runs in the home half of the 4th inning as time expired and escaped with a 6-5 Southeastern Athletic Conference jayvee baseball victory over West Bladen.

Three walks and an error resulted in the 2 Raider runs in the home 4th. The Knights had scored twice in the top of the inning to overcome a 4-3 Midway lead.

Freshman Mason Jones cracked a single and stole 2nd base to start the West 4th inning. Sophomore Jordan Hester hammered a double to right-center field that scored Jones. Sophomore Andre Moore reached base on an error as Hester raced home with the go-ahead run.

The Knights scored first in the back-and-forth game. Moore walked, and freshman Garrett Dunham laced a single to right-center field. Freshman Cade Allen’s fielder’s choice scored Moore, and freshman Brady Durden’s fielder’s choice brought home Dunham for a 2-0 lead.

Midway scored once in the 1st, but the Knights answered with a run in the 3rd inning. Dunham walloped a ground-rule double to left field and scored when Will Durden poked a single to right to pad the West lead to 3-1.

The Raiders bunched an error, a fielder’s choice and 2 hits to score 3 runs in the home half of the 3rd inning and edge back in front 4-3.

Hester batted 2-2 with a run batted in and a run scored. Dunham finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and 2 runs scored. Jones, Will Durden and Hezekiah Blanks-Adams connected for 1 hit each. Moore and Jones scored runs, and Allen, Brady Durden and Will Durden had RBIs.

Allen pitched the first 3 innings for the Knights and allowed 4 runs – 1 earned – on 4 hits, and a walk while striking out two. Dunham walked 3 and gave up 2 unearned runs.

The Knight jayvees, now 4-3 in SAC-7 play and 6-3 overall, will host Clinton after the Easter break on April 26.
