FRANKLINTON – East Bladen’s Eagles finished 3rd Saturday in the NCHSAA Class 2A Mid East Track & Field Boys Regional, and 5 Eagles and 2 West Bladen Knights qualified for the Class 2A State Track & Field Championships.
Burlington Cummings won the boys team regional with 135 points, followed by Granville Central with 79 points and East Bladen with 51.5 points. Southeastern Athletic Conference foe St. Pauls placed 5th with 44 points, and West Bladen tallied 21.5 points to finish in 11th place.
Eagle senior Willie Battle finished 2nd in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 5 inches and junior teammate Malcolm Bolden was 3rd with a long jump of 21 feet, 2 inches. Both of them qualified for the state long jump. East Bladen’s Jadon Pridgen threw the discus 114 feet, 9 inches to place 4th and earn a spot in the state discus throw.
The Eagles 4×100 and 4×200 meter relay teams both finished 4th in their events and qualified for state. Both relay teams consist of Battle, Bolden, sophomore Blaine Pope and senior Timothy McLean. The 4×100 team was clocked in 45.18 seconds, while the 4×200 team’s time was 1 minute, 35.16 seconds.
Qualifying for the state meet from West Bladen was senior Josiah Brown who was 4th in the 110 meter hurdles in 16.86 seconds, and junior Tydrick Stewart who placed 5th in the 100 meter dash in 11.37 seconds.
The NCHSAA Class 2A Track & Field State Championships will begin Friday at 9 a.m. at North Carolina A & T University in Greensboro.
