RED SPRINGS – Juniors Jazmy Funez Aranda and O’Mara McDonald fired in 2nd half goals as West Bladen rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit and tied Red Springs 2-2 Tuesday night in Southeastern Athletic Conference girls’ soccer action.

The Lady Knights are now 1-4-2 in SAC play and 2-9-4 overall and will host Red Springs in their season finale Friday night. Red Springs is now 4-2-1 in league play and 6-9-1 overall.

The 2 teams battled through a pair of scoreless 10-minute overtime periods. “It was a very physical game,” said West Bladen Coach Kristen Parker. “Friday is going to be intense for sure.”

Funez Aranda blasted in a penalty kick for her goal, and McDonald knocked in a goal off an assist from freshman Charlotte Cookson. Funez Aranda had 3 shots on goal in the game. Sophomore Leidi Zuniga Labra also had a shot on goal. Sophomore Lileigh Anderson also fired off a shot.

In 100 minutes in goal (counting the 2 overtime periods), senior Briana Carranza Toledo recorded 12 saves in goal for West.

McDonald sparked the Lady Knight defense with 8 steals. Zuniga Labra finished with 7 steals. Funez Aranda and junior Anna Campbell racked up 6 steals each. Sophomore Makenna Thurman and junior Haleigh Seabolt contributed 5 steals each, and senior Shamaria Jackson finished with 4 steals.
