PEMBROKE – Winter Park jumped to an early 9-0 lead and defeated Elizabethtown 10-0 Saturday in the opening round of the North Carolina Dixie Youth Baseball Majors State Tournament.
Winter Park scored 3 runs in the 1st inning without the benefit of a hit then pulled away with 6 runs on 5 hits in the 2nd inning.
Stryker Pait drew a 1st inning walk for Elizabethtown, and Greylon Robinson walked in the 2nd inning. Lakota Schemale started on the mound for Elizabethtown.
B. Caffee struck out 8 in 4 hitless innings for Winter Park.
Elizabethtown will play Topsail in an elimination game at 12:30 Sunday.
