Guard Jaleah Lee sank two foul shots with 12 seconds left to lift Heide Trask to a 38-37 Four County Conference girls’ basketball victory at West Bladen Friday night.

The Lady Titans had fouls left to give in the closing seconds and fouled West Bladen twice to eat up clock. The Lady Knights were able to launch a 3-point shot at the buzzer that bounced off the back iron.

West Bladen led 29-28 at the third quarter break, but Trask opened the final period with a 6-0 run to take a 34-29 lead.

Senior Miriam Mendoza banked in a long follow shot with 2:09 left to play, and senior Delasia Richardson muscled in another rebound basket at the 1:45 mark to trim the Trask lead to 34-33.

Saniyyah McCallister who topped the Lady Titan scoring with 13 points drove for a lay-up and a 36-33 lead with 1:35 left.

Mendoza banked in a 3-point shot from the right wing to tie the score 36-36 with 1:06 on the clock. Senior Breanna Jackson hit a free throw to put West Bladen on top 37-36 with 17 seconds remaining.

Jackson posted a double-double of 12 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Lady Knights. Richardson just missed a double-double of 10 points and 9 rebounds, and Mendoza added 10 points and 3 assists.

West Bladen outrebounded the Lady Titans 36-21, but connected on only 2 of 8 foul shots.

Jackson dropped in the first Lady Knight basket off of an assist from Richardson. Jackson returned the favor with a pass to Richardson for a lay-up, and Mendoza found Richardson for another lay-up that beat the first quarter buzzer and tied the game 6-6.

Sophmore Laikyn Pait buried a 3-point shot from the right wing to put the Lady Knights ahead 9-6 in the second quarter, but two baskets by Trask’s Bre Benton keyed an 8-0 run that put the visitors ahead 14-9.

Back came West with an 8-0 run that closed out the half. Jackson popped in a 12-footer off of a feed from sophmore Logan Autry, and Richardson dropped in a pair of lay-ups off of assists from Mendoza.

Richardson dropped off an assist to Jackson for a lay-up that put West Bladen on top 17-14 at halftime.

Rebound baskets from Jackson and Mendoza kept West on top 21-17, but Trask rallied for a 23-22 lead.

Mendoza drilled a 3-point shot, and Autry drove the baseline for a 27-23 West lead. Another Jackson follow shot kept the lead at 29-25, before a McCallister baseline 12-footer narrowed the gap to 29-28 at the third quarter break.

The Lady Knights are now 7-3 in the Four County and 11-9 overall. West Bladen will host Pender Tuesday night.
