Garrett Melvin recorded a ‘Hat Trick’ of 3 goals Thursday to lead Clarkton School of Discovery to a 9-0 Bladen Five Conference middle school soccer victory at County Park.
Melvin also finished with one assist. Teammate Jake Evans fired in 2 goals and also had an assist.
Evans tallied the first Blue Devil goal in the opening minute, then assisted on a Jake McGill goal that put CSD up 2-0.
An Evans goal in the eighth minute stretched the lead to 3-0. Melvin worked his way through the Panther defense for a pair of unassisted goals that grew the margin to 5-0 in the thirteenth minute.
A minute later Joseph Massaid connected on an unassisted goal for a 6-0 lead. In the 18th minute Lawson Hester knocked in an unassisted goal, and three minutes later a Melvin assist led to an Andrew Cahn goal and an 8-0 lead.
A Jacob Priest assist set up Melvin for his third goal in the 25th minute as the lead swelled to 9-0. The game was stopped at halftime due to the mercy rule.
After two rain-outs the game was the season-opener for both teams.
