East Bladen exploded for 14 first inning runs and rolled to a 19-4 mercy rule victory over visiting Pender Tuesday in Four County Conference jayvee baseball action.

Shy Pone reached base on an error to begin the Eagle first, and Greyson Heustess knocked him in with a single. After Pierce Melvin walked, Spencer Scott cracked a single that scored Heustess.

Tanner Meares belted a single to drive in Melvin, and Eric Chancy reached on an error that plated Scott. Rhett Burney delivered a single that scored Meares, and Scott Howell reached on an error that scored Chancy.

Pone walked, and Heustess reached on an error that plated Burney. Melvin’s fielder’s choice brought in Howell. Scott belted a single that scored Pone, and Meares slammed a double that plated Heustess and Scott.

Tatum knocked in Meares with a single, and Chancy walked. Burney smacked a single that scored Tatum, and Howell drove in Chancy with a single to push the lead to 14-0.

Heustess started the Eagle second inning with a single, Melvin walked and Scott was hit by a pitch. Meares reached base on an error as Heustess and Melvin scored.

Tatum walked and an error on Chancy’s grounder brought in Scott and Meares. Burney’s fielder’s choice plated Tatum and pushed the lead to 19-1.

Shy Pone struck out 7 batters while pitching the 4-inning victory. Pone allowed 4 runs on 3 hits and 4 walks.

Scott batted 3-3 with 2 runs batted in and 3 runs scored. Meares finished 3-4 with a double, 3 runs scored and 4 rbi’s. Burney turned in a 2-3 game with 2 runs scored and 3 rbi’s.

Heustess batted 2-4 with 3 runs scored and an rbi. Tatum and Howell cracked one hit each. Tatum, Pone, Melvin and Chancy all scored 2 runs each. Howell, Tatum, Chancy and Melvin drove in one run each.

The Eagles improved to 2-1 in the Four County and 5-2 overall and will travel to Heide Trask Thursday for a 4:30 game.
