LAKE WACCAMAW – Sincere Smith pitched a no-hitter to lead East Bladen to an 8-0 victory in the nightcap of their Dixie Pre-Majors double-header Tuesday night after East Columbus had rallied to pull out a 5-5 tie in the opener.
Kyle Tatum and Xavier Wooten were both hit by pitches in the first inning of the nightcap and both scored when Ty Watkins walloped a double.
In the fourth inning, Wooten walked and raced to third base when Watkins belted a single. Greyson Heustess launched a sacrifice fly that scored Wooten.
Devon Stocks smacked a single that sent Watkins to third base, and Spencer Scott plated Watkins with a sacrifice fly. Deondre Newkirk walked, and Nick Collins was hit by a pitch. Smith hammered a double that scored Newkirk and Collins and pushed the lead to 8-0.
Watkins batted 2-2 with the double and 2 runs batted in to lead the Eagles. Smith slugged the 2-run double, and Quinton Bedsole and Stocks added one hit each.
In the opener the Eagles carried a 5-1 lead into the fourth inning, before the Gators rallied to tie the game. Stocks pitched the first three innings, and Wooten finished up on the mound.
Bedsole cracked a first-inning single and came around to score on an error. Newkirk reached base on an error in the second inning, and Bedsole drove him in with a single.
Wooten reached base on an error in the Eagle third inning and scored on another error. Smith walked, stole a base and scampered home when Tatum connected for a single. Tatum stole a base and eventually scored the final Eagle run.
Bedsole batted 2-3 with an rbi and a run scored in the opener. Tatum singled and scored a run.
