Three Things to KnowThree things to know for Friday, August 12

1. The East Bladen Football Jamboree will be held at Lenon Fisher Stadium today beginning at 6 p.m. West Bladen, South Robeson and West Columbus will join the host Eagles for the scrimmage. It’s the final tune-up before next Friday’s openers when East Bladen will host South Columbus and West Bladen will play at South Robeson.

2. Ever wonder what snakes species are at home in eastern North Carolina? Which ones are venomous? Join a park ranger at the Jones Lake Visitor Center in exploring the various snakes in this area and the other unique species found throughout the state. Participants should meet at the Jones Lake State Park Visitor Center at 2 p.m.  Call the park office at 910-588-4550 for information. This event is free and open to public.

3. Drivers aren’t securing their loads on the road, according to AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. From 2011-2014, North Carolina had more than 2,000 crashes which involved debris, which may have been something falling off the vehicle or a tire shredding. Nationwide, nearly 37 percent of all deaths in road debris crashes resulted from the driver swerving to avoid htting an object.
