ELIZABETHTOWN — Cooper Wilson and Austin Inman combined on a four-hit shutout Friday as West Brunswick beat East Bladen 6-0 for its second win against the Eagles in the first week of the high school baseball season.

On a drizzly afternoon at Russell Priest Field the Trojans’ right-handers struck out nine and allowed only one East Bladen runner to reach third base.

West Brunswick scored two runs in each of the first two innings, aided by an error in each frame, for a 4-0 lead, then added single runs in the fourth and seventh.

Wilson got the win by pitching the first four innings, walking three and allowing the only hits East Bladen collected. Inman struck out four and walked one over the final three innings.

Carson Gooden, the first of four East Bladen pitchers, took the loss. He allowed five hits, four runs, two earned runs and struck out two in two innings. Freshman Jayce Hatcher allowed a run on a hit and two walk and struck out three in three innings. Jake Futrell struck out the side in the sixth. Britt Sasser gave up a run on a hit with a strike out and walk in the seventh inning.

Tyler Johnson, Debo Lewis, D.A. Smith and Cole Butler each had a hit for the Eagles.

East Bladen’s scoring threat came in the third when Na’Toren Corbett walked and Butler reached on a bunt single. Corbett was caught stealing third with Butler advancing to second. After the second out, Lewis reached on an infield single with Butler advancing to third, but the Eagles couldn’t get a run-producing hit.

West Brunswick beat the Eagles 11-7 on Tuesday in Shallotte.

East Bladen (0-2) is scheduled to host West Bladen (0-1) on Tuesday. The junior varsity game will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the varsity game to follow.

Friday’s junior varsity game between East Bladen and West Brunswick was canceled and the varsity game was moved to 4:30 p.m. in an effort to play before expected rain in the evening.
