softballCybil Campbell raced home with the winning run on a wild pitch as the Slammers rallied for an 11-10 victory over the Comets in Bladen Recreation 13-16 Softball action Thursday night at County Park.

With the Comets ahead 10-9 and the time limit expired, Nesiah Davis-McKoy drew a one-out walk in the Slammer fifth. Davis-McKoy stole second base, moved up on a wild pitch then darted home on another wild pitch.

Jordan Kinlaw walked, and Campbell was hit by a pitch. Kinlaw was tagged out at the plate attempting to score on a wild pitch, but Campbell slid in with the game-winner moments later.

The Comets had taken the 10-9 lead in the top of the fifth. Hannah Hill lined a double to leftfield, moved up on a wild pitch and scored on Alyssa Suggs’ fielder’s choice.

The Comets grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Demeary Britt and Olivia Hollingsworth drew walks and scored on fielder’s choices by Carlie West and Hill.

Katie Britt walloped a double in the Comet second inning and eventually dashed home on a wild pitch for a 3-0 lead.

Davis-McKoy led off the Slammer second with a single, and Kinlaw drew a walk. Kirsten Starkloff knocked in both runners with a double to left-center. Adrienne Howell, Majesti Corbett and Jaya Howell followed with consecutive infield hits.

Corbett’s infield hit brought home Starkloff. Ruth Ward and Johanna Parker drew walks to force home Adrienne Howell. Corbett scored on Izzy Smith’s fielder’s choice, and Jaya Howell scooted home on a wild pitch to vault the Comets in front 6-3.

Demeary Britt laced a single to centerfield, and Hollingsworth was hit by a pitch to start the Comet third inning. Hill smashed a single to right-centerfield that drove in both runners and sliced the Slammer lead to 6-5.

Cross pulled a single to rightfield, and Campbell walked in the Slammer third inning. Starkloff slammed another double to left-centerfield that scored both runners. Adrienne Howell’s infield hit drove in Starkloff and stretched the lead to 9-5.

The Comets answered with 4 runs in the fourth. Brianna Hales, Katie Britt and Halie Mason were all hit by pitches to start the inning. Demeary Britt walked to force home Hales, and fielder’s choices by Hollingsworth and Aiyana Lowry drove in Katie Britt and Mason. Demeary Britt scampered home on a wild pitch to tie the game.

Starkloff batted 2-2 with 2 doubles and 4 runs batted in to lead the Slammer hitters. Adrienne Howell finished 2-2 at the plate with an rbi. Johanna Parker slammed a double, and Cross, Davis-McKoy, Corbett and Jaya Howell added a single each. Smith, Corbett, Parker and Adrienne Howell had one rbi each.

Hill batted 2-3 with a double and 3 rbi’s to lead the Comet hitters. Katie Britt hammered the double, and Demeary Britt and Suggs added one hit each. Demeary Britt, Hollingsworth, Lowry and West had one rbi each.

Jordan Kinlaw struck out 8 in 5 innings in the circle to pick up the victory. Lowry, Hollingsworth and Hill shared the pitching duties for the Comets.
