Bladen County’s rural fire departments may be receiving assistance from the Board of Commissioners.

The board is expected Monday night to consider a part-time clerical position to support rural fire departments and a $10,000 appropriation to assist departments with high-water vehicle repairs. The clerical position would be for 1,000 hours at $15 per hour annually plus $1,147.50 for required Social Security contributions.

The board’s scheduled meeting is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. inside the Commissioners’ Room located on the lower level of the Bladen County Courthouse in Elizabethtown. The meeting is open to the public.

To listen to the meeting by telephone, dial 571-317-3122 and use access code 377-006-581.

Also on Monday’s agenda, Parks and Recreation Director Grant Pait is expected to discuss a Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) grant application. The application requests $197,925 PARTF funds and a matching $197,925 from the county.

If approved, funds would be used to resurface tennis courts, add pickleball courts and development of a multi-purpose fight with lights at Bladen County Park.
