Bladen Community College and the University of Mount Olive have entered into a significant partnership aimed at fostering educational collaboration and enhancing opportunities for agribusiness students. The signing ceremony for the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
took place on Friday, August 11th, at 9:00 am, symbolizing a new chapter in the two institutions’ commitment to academic excellence and the future of agribusiness.

The MOU signing event, held at the Bladen Community College campus, marked a momentous occasion where the leadership teams of both institutions gathered to solidify their shared vision for promoting education and knowledge exchange. Dr. Amanda Lee, President of Bladen
Community College, and Dr. H. Edward Croom, President of the University of Mount Olive, both emphasized the mutual benefits of the partnership and their excitement to embark on this journey, where they will combine strengths to create transformative learning opportunities that prepare students for success in an ever-evolving global landscape.

The signing of the MOU represents a commitment to fostering innovation, academic growth, and community engagement. “For a little background, the partnership is a 2+2 program between the University of Mount Olive and Bladen Community College. Students in Agribusiness can transfer 60 credit hours towards one of the four degree programs with the university: BS in Agribusiness, BA in Agribusiness (100% online), BA in Agriculture Communications and Leadership (100% online), or a BS in Agricultural Production Systems. Their credits can transfer to other degrees in the university’s College of Agriculture and Biological Sciences as well, but these four make up the 2+2 partnership. This gives students the opportunity to come into the University of Mount Olive as a junior, finishing their degree in the same amount of time as they would have if they had started at the university. We already have a student enrolled in the university’s program that graduated from the Bladen Community College Agribusiness program in 2022, so students are already able to take advantage of the agreement,” explained Lynn Marshburn, Bladen Community College Agribusiness Program Director.

Both institutions are dedicated to promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing, and this MOU stands as a testament to their shared commitment to higher education. As they move forward, Bladen Community College and the University of Mount Olive are poised to make a significant impact on their communities and beyond.
