Staff Report

In a democracy, fair and transparent elections are at the core of upholding the people’s rights and ensuring their voices are heard. Behind every successful election lies a team of individuals working to maintain the integrity of the voting process. The upcoming Board of Elections (BOE) monthly meeting scheduled for August 22, 2023, at 5:00 PM, will elect Chief Judges and Judges for the electoral process in Bladen County, North Carolina.

The responsibility of managing elections in Bladen County lies with the Bladen County Board of Elections, and at the helm is the competent and experienced Certified Elections Director, Christopher L. Williams.

During the forthcoming monthly meeting, the focus will be on electing both Chief Judges and Judges. These officials are integral to the functioning of polling stations during elections. Chief Judges are tasked with overseeing the entire polling station, ensuring the process adheres to established guidelines and resolving any issues that may arise. On the other hand, Judges work closely with Chief Judges to assist in managing the voting process and addressing concerns raised by voters.

One of the essential aspects of a democratic election is the assurance that every vote counts and that the process is fair and impartial. The community actively promotes transparency and impartiality in the electoral process by electing Chief Judges and Judges.

The selection of these officials should be an open and transparent process. Community members can participate in this democratic procedure actively. Your involvement in the process can ensure that competent and dedicated individuals are entrusted with upholding the democratic values of Bladen County.

The Bladen County Board of Elections encourages all eligible individuals interested in participating in the electoral process to consider becoming Chief Judges or Judges. By taking up these roles, citizens can actively contribute to their community and uphold the principles of democracy.

Aside from the electoral duties, these positions offer personal growth and skill development opportunities. The experience gained as Chief Judges or Judges can be invaluable for those interested in public service, governance, and community leadership.

According to the Elections website, “Every two (2) years the BOE elects positions of Chief Judges (CJ) and Judges (J) to a two-year term. This year in August the BOE will be electing CJ and J again to a two-year term as mandated by General Statutes. If you are interested in working for the BOE please contact your party chairs of your affiliation (Republican or Democrat) to let them know that you are interested in working for the BOE. If you are registered as Unaffiliated you may contact either party chair. The pay ranges from $180.00 to $250.00 for election day.”
