Bladen County Court is in session today, but Clerk of Court Niki Dennis is on the court steps asking if anyone is sick and making sure everyone is washing their hands for safety precautions during the Coronavirus Pandemic. There have been no cases of the virus in Bladen County. Still, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper strongly urges all North Carolinians to follow the guidance of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS) and to cancel or postpone any gatherings over 100 people.

The courthouse, located at 166 E Broad Street in Elizabethtown, will have a lot of people in and out of it today, according to Dennis. “There are a lot of people here today,” she said.

District court is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. with the Honorable W. Fred Gore presiding over 100 people on the docket. There are over 1,000 traffic violations on today’s court calendar.

On the North Carolina Judicial Branch’s website the branch states it continues to monitor the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation throughout the state. The Governor’s Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Task Force has been preparing and responding to this situation. Cheif Justice Beasley announced she is urging most North Carolina Courts to continue their court cases for at least 30 days.
