Bladen County municipal elections were to be held with a full set of candidates. Mayoral candidates were: Clarkton, incumbent Lem Smith and Dan McNeill. White Lake, Graden Melvin. Tar Heel, Howard Monroe and Larry Britt. Bladenboro, C.B. Hasbouck, Elizabethtown, incumbent Cecil Edge, Gordon Kinlaw and Alfred Gene Smith.
Elizabethtown Chief of Police M.J. Bell announced that radar is now being used to check the speed of vehicles in Elizabethtown.
Phillip Little was sworn in as a new police officer for the town of Elizabethtown.
