Bladen County held a Veterans and Community Stand Down event honoring the United States Armed Forces Veterans and their families Saturday, April 1, 2023. The event organizers hosted a job fair inside the Elizabethtown Baptist Church with many different vendors and programs aimed at people looking for their possible next career. The event began at 10 AM and ended around 2 PM.

The event honoring the county’s veterans opened with a display of the United States military flags by students at Paul R. Brown Leadership Academy. Then people visited the vendor booths for questions and answers about career opportunities and medical and legal services available in the area.

The vendors set up included Bladen Community College, Gildan, Smith & Sons Heating and Cooling, medical, dental, vision, and legal service options for those who have served our country with the five departments of the US armed services. Raffles were also a large part of the event, having raffled-away gift cards and other items. The event also served free lunch to those in attendance and vendors. will be available to veterans and their spouses and children for FREE. Sign up at the link below!

NC Works, along with the Elizabethtown White-Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, are two of the event organizers. Leon Grimes, one of the organizers with NC Works, stated, “It’s an honor to be able to recognize and support our veterans through this event, and I’m glad to see so many others here to assist our goal in honoring those who served. This is dedicated to those who have, currently are, and who will serve our country.”
