Back at West Bladen High School, we had the opportunity to speak with Brookee Singletary and hear about her high school experiences.

Brookee Singletary is a hard-working student who participates in many clubs and sports. She is on the varsity basketball, soccer, and cheerleading teams and excels in all she does.

She is hoping to become a physician’s assistant, Singletary plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-Chapel Hill) to catapult her into her bright future. As a physician assistant, she plans to give back and advance health care in rural communities like Bladen County. She says that this goal has been influenced by her family, but specifically her sisters because they have all taught her so much.

Brooke Singletary is also a dual enrollment senior, taking West Bladen High School and Bladen Community College classes. She states that through the college courses she has taken, she feels confident with her transition into UNC-Chapel Hill this fall. She adds that while being a dual enrollment student was tough, “You just got to push through.”

Looking back, Brooke uncovered that her most memorable moment in high school was a canned goods drive, where the donations went to a local food bank. While this sounds like a regular service project, what makes it memorable for Brooke is the pep rally and basketball game that West Bladen High School held to celebrate.

Brooke also took time to expound upon a group she loves being a part of and how it has shaped who she is today. This group is the West Bladen High School Cheerleading Squad. She says, “It really taught me how to communicate with people and just take everything into consideration of what’s happening to solve problems.”

One piece of advice that Brookee leaves underclassmen and incoming freshmen is to not live in the past. She elaborates by saying “If something happens just move forward and continue being yourself.” Brookee hopes that through her story, she inspires others to push through and be themselves.
