The annual Bladen We Care Byron Gooden golf tournament has been canceled this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Bladen We Care tournament chairman Mac Campbell Jr. announced.

The tournament originally was scheduled in April, then rescheduled for September, but now has been called off for 2020.

“There are many reasons that go into this recommendation, not the least being health and well being of all individuals involved,” Campbell said. “For me, personally, this decision is a great disappointment as over the past 30 plus years this event and gala have been the center of our family’s and the committee’s efforts to serve people in need in Bladen County.

“We will continue to serve using the support we have received this year from Smithfield, Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church, The Gooden Family, Lt. Governor Dan Forest and a vendor who sent in their check before this pandemic struck.

“I thank each one of you for your support and efforts, pray this will pass or we can get a handle on it and we can get excited again about the 2021 tournament,” Campbell said.

Bladen We Care is a non-profit organization that helps people in need in Bladen County.
