As many know, March is Women’s History Month. Mr. Tony Priest of Clarkton donated some old files to BladenOnline.com.

While our staff members were sifting through the various files, the one titled, “Native Bladen Woman Fought Through The Civil War”gives homage to women in history. The article was preserved in the 1970s by Rev. Nash A. Odom, Pastor of the Dublin First Baptist Church and President of the Bladen Historical Society.

According to the report, Mrs. Lucy Mathilda Kenny, a native of Bladenboro, North Carolina, is said to be the only Confederate woman who fought through the War Between the States. She died in June 1925, at her home in Nichols, Ga., at the age of 112 years of age, according to a referenced clip from the Star-News, in Wilmington, N.C.  Read the full report now, click here.

We also found a photo dedicated to Mrs. Wanda Campbell, Clerk or Assistant Clerk of Court for 42 years and a charter member of Bladen County Historical Society, and member for over 50 years.
